Californians won big on Election Day as they approved Proposition #1A, a measure to provide initial financing for a $42 billion, 700+mile bullet train system, of which, SYSTRA is proud to be a major subconsultant on the program management team.
The new system is envisioned as a state of the art, electrically powered, high-speed (up to 220 mph) system, using steel wheel-on-steel rail technology, including safety, signaling, and automated train control systems.
The new system will provide intercity travel from San Francisco to Los Angeles, and will relieve capacity constraints experienced by the existing transportation network.
It is hoped that interest in high-speed rail throughout other corridors in the U.S. will grow with the success of the California High-Speed Rail program. The California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) is the state entity responsible for planning, designing, constructing, and operating a high-speed train system serving California's major metropolitan areas.
